Cast Marble statues are made from a composite material in which natural crushed Marble stone is mixed with a small quantity of resin that works as a glue. The mixture is then poured into a mold of the statue design. Only in our sculptures 90% of the finished sculpture is natural crushed Greek Marble stone, which gives it a look and feel of solid natural marble. All sculptures are finished by hand. This strong material is water and weather resistant and can be washed with most cleaning agents.  Please note: Our statues are not carved.

In Greek mythology, Achilles was a hero of the Trojan War, and the central character and greatest warrior of Homer’s Iliad. The death of Achilles was however not mentioned in Homer’s Iliad, but appeared in later Greek and Roman poetry and drama concerning events after the Iliad, later in the Trojan War. In the myths surrounding the Trojan war, Achilles died from a heel wound as the result of a poisoned arrow fired by Paris.

Our statue is based on the marble sculpture known as «The Dying Achilles ».  The Dying Achilles sculpture was created in Berlin in 1884 by Ernst Herter, a famous German sculptor as specialized in in creating statues of mythological figures. The statue was acquired by Empress Elizabeth (Sissy) and became the centerpiece at the gardens of her palace Achilleion in Corfu, Greece.
